Programs
VAXX has broad capabilities to develop new products for major preventative and therapeutic indications to the clinical proof-of-principle stage. The company's most advanced program comprises the development and evaluation of a novel norovirus virus-like particle (VLP) preventative vaccine called noroVAXX™. This vaccine has been subjected to extensive preclinical development. This work builds on the research conducted by Dr. Charles Arntzen and his collaborators, including a current research team at Arizona State University.
VAXX estimates the US market potential for a prophylactic NWV vaccine exceeds 5 million doses per annum. The availability of a plant-produced VLP vaccine against NWV could enjoy significant technical as well as market advantages, in particular, easier scalability and lower cost of goods compared with animal cell culture-based manufacturing systems.
The noroVAXX™ vaccine could enter a Phase I safety and immunogenicity human clinical trial by the end of 2009. The company is already in discussion with established companies who have expressed an interest in the partnered development, licensure and commercialization of the vaccine.
